You go into business for many reasons. One main thing is to be successful. A failed business is nobodies dream come true. Perception is extremely important. Just look at beer ads. I'm not a beer drinker, but even I want to have fun like they do! If you can get your business or product associated with the idea that you are after, your business will prosper. This is what brand recognition is all about.
To become recognized and remembered takes some time. You don't want to build false hype and rush through this. People will never forget the false part of the hype. That will give a bad case of long term brand rejection. My parents had a bad experience at a chain fast food type place over 10 years ago. Even though they have probably changed the entire staff several times over they will not go back for fear of something similar happening again. It is stuck in their minds.
Having your name out for all to see is a way to get it recognized and remembered. You could spend some serious cash on big road signs or get what amounts to a whole lot of tiny mobile messages moving around town. A promotional cap or shirt will do just that. You have them imprinted with your info in an attractive way and then give them to people. They will wear them. They always do.
Advertising is tricky. It can be really expensive and then it is all done so fast, and you have to do it all over again. With promotional products you get something in hand. It gets passed onto a possible customer. It will get worn or used and then others see it. There are many inexpensive products to use. There are coolers that will advertise for you on the beach. Frisbee's that will show off your name at the park. It will work for some good brand recognition.
Promotional merchandise is the key to excellent brand recognition. You have the choice of gobs of promotional items that will tickle anyone's fancy.
