Setting up the speakers for a surround sound system in your home can be a little tricky. Tricky as in awesome because when you have a surround sound system it makes everything you watch and play even better and more awesome. Playing video games and listening to satellite radio is even better with a surround sound system.

At the beginning of the journey, you need to look at your options regarding types of surround systems. The more inexpensive system will be the one that come as a system all in one box. Or you may want to purchase separate components and match them together. The box system will come with all the pieces you need to set it up.

The cheaper cost of most box systems may help you in the decision making process. There are more expensive boxed sets you might want to consider due to higher quality sound and still maintaining the matched pieces. So actually the boxed systems give you a range of choices, some of the smaller ones would be good for small condos or apartments.

If you have good technical knowledge and expertise you may choose to build your own system with components of your choosing creating a custom system. This provides a more expensive and powerful system for your ultimate sound. Start with choosing a tuner and amplifier, then a CD and DVD player, completing it with some speakers.

The next consideration when building your system is making the choice of 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound, wired or wireless. Your speakers need to be able to handle the power of the amp that you choose. If you can find wireless speakers you like that's a wonderful option, as you don't have to fool with running all the wiring.
