There are some absolutely lovely areas in inner cities that are being redone by newcomers. A lot of people are buying old homes for cheap and rehabbing them for their families. These places have lost a lot in the years that have passed. One thing that they once had was a strong sense of community. Once you have finished fixing your old house that should be next on the agenda. You could be the start of building up that neighborly feeling by planning out some community events.
There are several issues to look into before diving in. You always want to check the legal points before you do something new. That can be as easy as contacting the city. They will lay it all out for you. Whatever permits and safety concerns that they have will probably be in writing. You can also ask about some funding from the city. It may be something that you need to apply for on a yearly basis. Some of this will depend on where you want to have the show. Each neighborhood generally has a city park, and that open green space would be perfect.
To attract both artists and sponsors you need something slick and professional looking. Artists will not fork over an any fees if they don't have faith that you will attract a good size crowd. Sponsors need to see enough well presented information to know that you are very serious and that this thing will go on with or without them. There are people that can come up with something presentable for you. Graphic designers will make a website and brochure for you. Sponsors will be given credit with promotional merchandise that has their name along with your art show/neighborhood logo. You can get t-shirts, caps, sports bottles and all sorts of stuff to sell to people.
You can bring excitement, culture, and some revenue into your neighborhood with an art show. Just hit all the bases first such as, legal issues, planning, sponsoring, and attracting artists. There are multiple streams of revenue possible for something like this. If it is going to be a neighborhood event then you need to tap into the people of your area. You'd be surprised with the amount of knowledge that is floating around. The businesses in your area will profit and you could even have it set up so your neighbors could set up stands in their yards to sell refreshments or whatever.
Promotional clothing will give you space to appreciate your sponsors nicely as well as advertise for future shows. You can use other useful promotional items such as sports bottles to sell to attendees too.
