People are starting to take matters into their own hands about neighborhood improvement. With all the budget shortfalls in the city it is a smart thing to do. There is plenty to do and if you are raising your own money and doing your own ideas the improvements can be what you think is best, not the city. So, let them work on the storm drains while you make the area safer and more fun for kids. An art club is a great idea for the neighborhood. If you are in one of those lovely old inner city neighborhoods that are beginning to turn around you are in a good spot. People have been moving in these areas and buying houses. The slum lords are losing houses right and left and taking the low rent faction with them. The drugs and street crime are moving out and flowers and bicycles are moving in.
You will some sort of secure area to do this. You need room for classes and an area set aside for completed projects. A warehouse would be the best but in desperation someones garage will work. If there is a vacant building that is in good repair you could ask the owner if he would let you use it for your noble purpose. You never know. You should later be able to rent a good size space for this.
Sponsors for your endeavor are a very good idea. don't be shy about asking for money from those big corporations. They have departments just for dealing with giving out money to good causes. There is a way to go about it and as soon as you approach someone about it they will tell you how. The arts are one of the things that many companies like to sponsor. You will need to let the world know that you were helped by a company. A great way to do this is to customize some items, such as a shirt for your organization. You need to show off what you are doing in a public way too. You have your logo or information on a part of the shirt as well as the sponsor name.
So much good can come to your neighborhood through your new art club organization. You will have interest, energy, and money coming in. You can put on a show and sell what the students have created. One great idea that I have seen is having kids paint a piece of furniture. People will come to the show and buy because it is a good cause.
Custom shirts are needed for your nifty art club. You can use promotional hats to give to patrons and for the talented students to wear.
