How will your family cope if you and all the comforts that you provide are suddenly not there any more. If you are the member of your family that earns the income you have to be careful with your family and plan what to do in case of the unthinkable. With a wife and little ones at home you do all that you can for them now. It would be the most wonderful thing that you could do to protect them now and later. It is not pleasant but to leave them defenseless is worse.

What do you think would change in your kids lives if you were not there to provide income? Does your wife have job skills and experience to hit the work force immediately. And then if your kids are tiny, who will take care of them if she does start working? Your family will go through a terrible upheaval by your absence alone. Having no resources will just be more of a nightmare for them.

There is nothing fancy or too hard about planning for your family's future. There are some things to check out and decisions to make and it will be done. You don't need to dwell on some scary scenario. You are taking the steps to fix any awful endings to your story.
