Getting life insurance takes you over 30 days usually. It is a process that is stuffed to the gills with paperwork and other things that are by no means thrilling. They will ask you more questions than you ever thought possible. It is not an enjoyable ride and it will reveal anything and everything about your way of life and health there is to know.

The questions begin with your entire medical history. Hopefully you have records or at least remember all of your doctors names. It is important to give them everything. They will grill you about inheritable conditions that may be present in close family members. You will have to tell them if you will be going out of the country for any reason and if it is something that you do on occasion. They will probably ask more questions about your lifestyle than you wish to answer as well.

Onward to the interview section. You will be asked many of the same questions by several different people. Some in person and some on the phone. All that information will go into the MIB database. This is why you need to keep tack of your health coverage. You have to give the same information that you gave in the past or they will see a discrepancy. This will cause the whole process to come to a halt until it is sorted out.

They will keep this info in storage for a minimum of 7 years. If you neglected to add something important about your health or history it could mean your family being denied their benefits if this comes to light after your death. Remember that if you are tempted to give false information for a cheaper premium.

If this whole underwriting process sounds like a nightmare, you can avoid it by choosing other kinds of life insurance coverage. You will probably be annoyed by those in other ways though, because they will be more expensive. Anyone up to a certain age can get guaranteed issue life insurance. But you will be paying a lot more for that than other types. People that get this are usually the ones that don't qualify for any other kind. One other is called simplified life insurance. You don't have a medical exam for this one and you only have to answer a few questions. But you will get turned down if you have any medical issues whatsoever in your past.
