There are a lot of benefits at having health insurance. If you haven't needed it in a long time then you may not realize what it can do for you. Life is absolutely full of uncertainty. People lose and change jobs all the time. A family's finances will go up and down. We all are forever getting new bills and prices go up and don't ever seem to go down. When you think about your health you realize that is is uncertain as well. You don't have any way of knowing if you will catch the latest bug, like the swine flu for instance, and how your body will take it. This is the biggest reason behind having health insurance to rely on.
If you wait until you have a health issue, or until something is wrong with you, then you won't be able to get the health insurance coverage. No one is going to hand over a policy to you if you have discovered an illness. If you can somehow get coverage it will probably be too expensive. There are people out there who pay thousands each month because they are very ill. Something like heart disease will not show any symptoms while it builds for years and having that without insurance will destroy whatever investments you have, of any kind.
You really don't want to take a chance on letting your finances absolutely go to pieces. When you think about the consequences that monthly premium doesn't seem so bad. Because life is uncertain and we don't know the possibilities for the future it is best to be prepared in any way you can.
Getting health insurance coverage is a smart and simple decision. It isn't that you are planning on getting ill one day. It is just the best way to keep yourself safe from so many things. You will get regular checkups with insurance and that is how they find out stuff that would have otherwise gone unnoticed. You are being proactive about your finances too.
