When in Rome do as the Romans do, and while in Australia do as the Aussies do. It is easier said then done, if you know what to expect when you arrive in the Gold Coast, and the following is some very helpful information about local norm, time, temperature and other information that you will probably find very useful if you will be traveling to this region in the not too distant future.

The time is probably different at the Gold Coast from where you are coming. It is 10 hours before GMT. They don't do the whole daylight savings thing either. So that won't be an issue. You will probably want to mail some post cards back home while you are there. This will take about a dollar if you are sending to the United States or The United Kingdom. A standard letter will usually get to where it is supposed to go in under a week.

It is also good to have information about how banking institutions work on the Gold Coast. Generally whatever credit card or debit card that you have is OK because they take them all in most spots. You will want to find out from your bank what they will charge you for getting money this way. They could be pretty pricey. You really should get a currency converter so that you have a full understanding of what things cost you.

You should know about electricity in Australia too. It is not the same all over. If you are bringing things with you that you will need t plug in, like a laptop charger or a curling iron, you need to have a adapter. They use 240 volts and have flat pin wall sockets for the most part. You can contact where you will be staying if this is confusing because then you will know exactly if what you have will fit or if it needs an adapter.

You will want to know who to call in case of an emergency or non-emergency situation. Use 000 for a situation that you need the police, ambulance service, or a fire truck to the rescue. The non-emergency numbers vary by location there. People that are in the service industry don't expect to be to be tipped a gratuity for their services. If you really want to they will naturally be happy for 10% at most.

There are loads of gold coast hotels that you will find near the things that intrigue you the most. Excellent surfers paradise accommodation will put you near the water and some tourist action.
